Cucurbita pepo
'Black Beauty' is an heirloom variety of summer squash, prized for its creamy flesh and dark green skin. It is a hardy and reliable plant that produces fruit early and will continue to produce for many months. The zucchini flowers are a culinary favourite and are often cut and stuffed. Requires full sun/part shade and moist, well drained soil.
How to plant: Plant seeds in spring/summer when temperature reaches over 20C, they will take 7-14 days to germination. Space the seeds approximately 75cm apart, and allow 50-65 days to maturity. Zucchini is frost tender and susceptible to mildew.
