Daphne is a genus of between 70 and 95 species of deciduous and evergreen shrubs in the family Thymelaeaceae, native to Asia, Europe and north Africa. They are noted for their scented flowers and often brightly coloured berries. Daphnes are generally neat, compact plants that are at home in dappled shade. Daphne species vary in habit - some are erect, while others are rounded or even spreading. Daphnes can be rewarding plants when planted in pots or garden beds.
