Viola cornuta
'Johnny Jump Up' viola is a hardy perennial that seems to bloom almost endlessly in our forgiving Australian climate. Growing no taller than 15-20cm, they provide the perfect border in any domestic garden and are a delight for their gorgeous show of constant colour and the array of beneficial insects they attract. They are also edible. Plant in moist, well-drained soil in a position that receives part/full sun. Plants will reach maturity in approximately 110 days.
How to plant: Raise the seedlings in trays away from light, they require darkness to germinate, this will take 4-7 days. Once germinated, and after the frosts have finished, sow out into the garden or into pots. Seedlings should be planted at a depth of 0.6cm. and spaced at 20cm.
