Solanum lycopersicum
'Tommy Toe' produces an absolute abundance of medium sized cherry tomatoes and is resistant to pest and disease. It is a tall, upright plant that will require staking. If there is only one tomato you grow through the warm season, this is the one to choose. Tomatoes are nitrogen-hungry so soil must be prepared with a mix of compost and chicken manure dug through the patch two weeks prior to planting. Choose a sunny, well-drained spot, preferably in a position where you have not grown tomatoes the previous season.
How to plant: Propagate in seed trays. Tomatoes can be grown in large pots but do best in-ground. It is recommended to pinch out the first shoots to encourage plant growth.
