Cotinus coggygria
Deciduous shrub with upright, open growth habit. Noted for its attractive, rounded foliage which is bright red in spring, dark red in summer and then turns shades of golden in the autumn, making a continuous show of beauty.
In summer, huge feathery, purple-pink flower plumes cover the shrub with unusual, fluffy 'smoke-like' puffs. Drought resistant once established, it can be used as a specimen plant or as an informal hedge. Requires a sunny position and grows well in any well-drained soil. Mulch well to retain moisture.
