Origanum vulgare
'Common' oregano is a perennial herb with aromatic leaves and pink flowers in summer. Ideally suited to Mediterranean and rich meat dishes, the flavour also blends well with tomatoes and on pizza. Loves full sun and humus-rich, well-drained soil. When growing in pots, ensure you use a very good quality potting mix.
How to plant: The seeds are very small so it is necessary to create shallow trenches and sprinkle the seeds along, water in, and keep moist but not wet. The young seedlings have a tendency to rot if over-watered.
