Tropaeolum majus
'Double Jewel' has a mix of brightly coloured, semi-double flowers that bloom through the spring and summer months. Not only a great companion plant, attracting bees and trapping snails, this is the ultimate root to bloom with all parts of the plant being edible. Self seeds consistently. Nasturtiums thrive in most soil types as long as it is well-draining and prepared with compost. Plant in semi-shade and fertilise plants moderately.
How to plant: For faster germination, soak seeds overnight in water and then plant directly into the veggie patch. Keep watered until germination. Protect the plants from direct afternoon sunlight as they have a tendency to burn, morning sunlight is preferable.
