Tagetes patula

'Petite series mixed' is a dwarf mixture of the crested French Marigolds. This variety grows to 30cm and produces masses of pretty, brightly coloured flowers in hues of orange and red. They are easy to grow and well suited to small pots. Ensure the soil is rich in nutrients, preparing it a couple of weeks beforehand with fresh manure and compost. Marigolds prefer a well-drained soil and full sun.

How to plant: Sow directly into your patch or pots once daytime temperatures have surpassed 18-20c. If planting in cooler weather, propagate in seed trays and transplant when it is warmer.

When to plant:

Cool climate: October-April

Temperate: September-May

Subtropical: Anytime

Tropical: Anytime

Spacing: 15-20cm

Depth: 0.5-1cm

Soil pH Level: 6.5-7.0

Approximate no. of seeds: 75

Companion plants: Marigolds are often used as companion plants for their ability to deter pests. Particularly helpful near tomatoes.
