Magnolia stellata
'Waterlily', also known as Star Magnolia, is a bushy, upright magnolia that is the perfect specimen tree for smaller gardens or to grow in containers. In early spring, furry, soft-pink buds open to reveal fragrant, very pale-pink, star-like flowers that eventually fade to white. The lovely green foliage that follows turns a deep golden colour during autumn.
As with all magnolias, it prefers a moist, fertile and well-drained soil that is slightly acidic. A sunny aspect in a protected position is best. They also tolerate partial shade, and some protection from strong wind will enhance and prolong the flowering season.
