M. liliiflora 'Reflorescens' × stellata 'Rosea'
This compact, deciduous magnolia is another variety of the Saucer Magnolia and belongs to the 'Little Girl' series of hybrid Magnolias. Flowering in mid-spring, it makes an impressive display of beauty in the garden. Reddish-purple at the base, the large, cup-shaped flowers in deep-pink open to pale-pink on bare branches before the dark green foliage unfurls. The blooms are 18cm across and emit a light perfume that invades the garden. This is the perfect specimen tree for a smaller garden.
As with all Magnolias, it prefers a moist, fertile and well-drained soil that is slightly acidic. A sunny aspect in a protected position is best. They also tolerate partial shade, and some protection from strong wind will enhance and prolong the flowering season.
