Ocimum basilicum
This Genovese basil was bred near the port town of Genova in Italy and is the preferred basil for serious culinary types who love their pesto. Sweet and peppery, it is very easy to grow, making it an excellent choice for the home gardener. Requires full sun and grows best in humus-rich, free-draining soil.
How to plant:
Sow in trays in early season or once sufficiently warm, sow directly into the garden. Plant two seed in each hole and water in. Keep moist, but not wet, until germination.
