Rhododendron - 'Van Nes Sensation' (s) x 'Marion' - (also known as Boulter's Robyn)
Medium sized evergreen shrub with open habit and matt, dark-green foliage. In spring, strong reddish-purple buds open to reveal pretty trusses of broadly funnel-shaped blooms. Opening reddish-purple around the wavy lobes, they then fade to very pale-purple as they age.
Perfect in garden beds under large trees. Prefers dappled shade and requires well-draining, humus-rich, acidic soil.
This variety has been known to do well in warmer climates.
