Magnolia x soulangeana

In early spring, clusters of goblet-shaped flowers, bright purple outside, white on the inside, adorn the bare branches in spectacular fashion before the leaves unfurl. This tree makes an absolutely stunning feature plant and can continue to spot flower even into autumn.
As with all magnolias, it prefers a moist, fertile and well-drained soil that is slightly acidic. A sunny aspect in a protected position is best. They also tolerate partial shade, and some protection from strong wind will enhance and prolong the flowering season.
