Magnolia liliiflora × veitchii
'Royal Crown' is a deciduous, upright growing tree that forms an open rounded canopy. Lush green foliage appears in spring before turning a golden yellow in autumn. Before the foliage appears, the bare limbs are covered in narrow, dark red-violet buds that open to reveal crown-shaped, large pink blooms with long narrow petals. This tree is a vigorous grower, flowers from a young age and has a long flowering period.
As with all magnolias, it prefers a moist, fertile and well-drained soil that is slightly acidic. A sunny aspect in a protected position is best. They also tolerate partial shade, and some protection from strong wind will enhance and prolong the flowering season.
