Magnolia liliiflora
Liliiflora is a hardy, deciduous shrub that is smaller in size than many magnolias. In spring, just before the dark-green leaves unfurl, stunning, upright pointed blooms that are purple outside and white inside appear. The showy flowers provide a fabulous feature in the garden.
As with all magnolias, it prefers a moist, fertile and well-drained soil that is slightly acidic. A sunny aspect in a protected position is best. They also tolerate partial shade, and some protection from strong wind will enhance and prolong the flowering season.
