M. liliiflora x m. sprengeri 'Diva'
'Galaxy' is a unique small deciduous magnolia with an upright narrow growing habit, suitable for smaller gardens. The foliage is dark green and provides an oval canopy over the tree. Deep purple-red buds open to reveal blooms that are large, slightly fragrant, light pinkish-purple outside and paler rose-pink within. The tree blooms from an early age and flowers more profusely as it ages.
The tree provides a spectacular, long lasting display that is the pride of the garden, receiving the Award of Garden Merit from the RHS.
As with all magnolias, it prefers a moist, fertile and well-drained soil that is slightly acidic. A sunny aspect in a protected position is best. They also tolerate partial shade, and some protection from strong wind will enhance and prolong the flowering season.
