Yulan magnolia
'Denudata' is a hardy deciduous small tree with round, upright habit. Slow growing with a short trunk, it makes a stunning specimen tree to grow in a large pot. In early spring, pure-white, tulip-shaped flowers that have a slight citrus scent, emerge to make an eye-catching display of beauty. After the tree blooms, dark-green foliage with lighter tones on the underside unfurl.
The perfect summer shade tree, this is considered one of the best white magnolias and received an Award of Garden Merit from the RHS.
As with all magnolias, it prefers a moist, fertile and well-drained soil that is slightly acidic. A sunny aspect in a protected position is best. They also tolerate partial shade, and some protection from strong wind will enhance and prolong the flowering season.
