Prunus lusitanica
Hardy evergreen shrub with dense growth habit and dark-green, glossy foliage. The new leaves emerge lime-green before darkening and are smaller than the foliage on the Cherry Laurel. In spring, small, fragrant white flower heads adorn the shrub. Later, cherry-like fruits emerge, greenish at first then turning to purple-black as they ripen in late summer.
The shrub is very showy when in full flower. Prefers full-sun to part shade and makes a very attractive hedging option if clipped into shape. Plant in moist, well-drained soil, mulch well. Tolerates dry periods once established.
