Vaccinium corymbosum - Northern Highbush
Annie is a deciduous shrub that produces wonderfully flavoursome blue fruit during summer. In spring, delicate white and pink flowers cover the plant. Berries ripen from green, through pink to blue. In autumn, foliage turns a brilliant yellow, then burnt orange and finally a deep red.
The berries provide an excellent source of antioxidants, vitamins and fibre. They may be eaten fresh, used in cooking or frozen for later use.
For best results plant in free-draining, humus rich soil. Blueberries do best planted in full sun with some protection from strong winds. Prune any old stems or dead wood at the end of winter.
