Rhododendron hybrid - ponticum x unknown
Joseph Whitworth is an older variety of rhododendron with a well branched, dense habit. Foliage is dull, dark-green and elongated. In mid-spring, masses of ball-shaped trusses of magenta-lilac flowers adorn the bush in a sea of spectacular colour. Flowers are funnel-shaped with darker spots on the lobes.
Requires dappled shade and well-draining, humus-rich, acidic soil.
