Magnolia x soulangeana
A popular medium sized deciduous tree with obovate mid-green foliage and upright growth habit when young. In early to mid spring, a spectacular profusion of fragrant, purplish-pink, tulip-shaped flowers appear on bare limbs before the foliage emerges. A very popular tree due to its stunning floral display and beautiful fragrance.
As with all magnolias, it prefers a moist, fertile and well-drained soil that is slightly acidic. A sunny aspect in a protected position is best. They also tolerate partial shade, and some protection from strong wind will enhance and prolong the flowering season.
